Were still not dead, are bandwidth did get raped though this month. The site is mostly getting spammed by bots, which is kind of depressing. I’ve also disabled user registration to try to keep the bot traffic down.

In every game as players progress they acquire equipment, which are items they can use to upgrade their character. In Mega Man he has an arm cannon that can be upgraded from the parts of bosses he beats. In other games like RPGs you have equipment such as armor, weapons, and accessories. Well today I’m going to be talking about the different types of equipment that will be available in Hyrathus.
At Hyrathus were striving to have more visible equipment than other games like Endless, Dark Ages, and Ragnarok. This will allow players to deeply customize their characters and add a sense of realism.
Characters will display the following layers of items:
- Upper Body(shirt)
- Lower Body(pants)
- Feet(shoes)
- Hands(gloves)
- Waist(belt)
- Shoulders(Spaulders)
- Face(Glasses/Masks)
- Head(Hats/Helmets)
- Weapons (Sword, Mace, Bow)
- Shields
- Back Items (Backpacks, Quivers, flying suit)
Equipment will very from class to class. Some classes won’t have need for shoulder items and others won’t need shields. There will also be some instances when special layering is used. We will also try to make most items available in appropriate alternative color options.
Animation
Finishing off the back views is much harder than first anticipated, It needs alot of work before I’m completely happy.
I also made the hands larger, so that I could get away with more exaggerated cartoon-like actions in animation later.
speaking of animation, I have been studying up on walkcycles for the past week, and I have several pages of notes describing the details of hip swaying, head bobing ,the way the ball of the foot rolls etc….

Evolution
I would like to give a big hand out to Reuben who really continues to shock me with his amazing pixel skills. We’ve come a long way, so here is a tribute to the progress!
The original sprite on the far right was created for the original 2004 Hyrathus by Tyuwan. The rest of the sprites that you see were created by Reuben.
Originally we wanted to try to make graphics as similar to Endless as possible. We later realized that larger sprites are worth the extra effort and tried to go for a style of spriting more similar to Ragnarok.
Reuben is currently working on finishing the sprite sheet and he is also programming a offline test client. I’m working on mapping out the plans for a GUI, planning basic game systems, and working on the class tree.
